The Jenkins Family

Adoption Grant Recipients

It all started with a challenge to pray. Pray how the Lord wants our family to live out James 1:27.

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

This led to the realization that if finances were not an issue we would adopt in a heartbeat. Just as God so loved us, we wanted to extend this love to another. We began the process of domestic adoption; simply because we felt international adoption was not possible for us financially.

We were shocked and awed by the way God provided the finances for every step of this adoption. We have been so grateful to Beauty Amidst the Ashes for the financial, educational, and emotional support.

We then waited...and waited...and waited...

Eighteen months after we began we went back to prayer in reevaluation. We began to consider transitioning to the foster care system. There are many children in distress within this system.

We felt confused and unsure. We began to pray that if God wanted us to step away from adoption and step toward foster care that the agency would tell us that there would not be a child for

us. THEN....quite the opposite happened!! Our agency asked if we would consider

international adoption. They continued to share with us that there is an orphanage in Liberia, Africa, with children waiting for forever families. Our hearts broke, and it did not take long before we jumped ahead in faith to pursue adopting Tabitha.

Africa was quite the adventure. We stayed in the orphanage with 12 children for the month that it took to adopt little Tabi. It was a trying, faith stretching time, but so beneficial. Living with Tabi for a month in her territory was so beneficial when it came to her transition home. Also, we were able to learn so much about her from the care-givers, director, and social worker. Even though this time was difficult journey, I truly wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

We love our little Tabi, and are so glad that she has joined our family!!
